Planning a Party for a Quinceañera and Choosing the Right Venue

A fiesta de quince años is known by other names such as fiesta de quinceañera, quince años, quinceañero and quinces.  This party is a celebration of a girl’s 15th birthday. The celebration finds its cultural roots in Latin America and is still a time-honored tradition through South and Central America as well in the United States.

A girl celebrating her 15th birthday is a quinceañera.  Sometimes people call the event “a quinceañera,” but this incorrect, at least in Spanish-speaking countries, as the word is only used to honor the birthday girl. In the United States, however, the word is often used to refer to the party and events surrounding the big day.

For women in Hispanic cultures, the 15th birthday has traditionally held significance of the year a girl transforms herself into a young woman.  In the past, girls spent the years of their earlier adolescence learning to cook and clean, in lessons led by older women, so that they would be prepared to be wives and mothers by the 15th birthday.  In the past, fathers presented their daughters to eligible bachelors at these events.  Historically, a similar tradition has been found across Portugal, Spain, and France.  However, today’s tradition is mostly strongly carried on by Mexican families.  That being said, many Spanish-speaking cultures celebrate the 15th birthday today, for children of any gender.  In some cultures, sweet 16’s and debutant balls hold a similar cultural value.  Some events hold religious significance, including a mass, or misa, as part of the festivities.  Afterward, the families hold a reception in the best venues for quinceañera parties.

Around the world, this event has different names.  In Brazil, where people speak Portuguese, the event is called a festa de debutantes.  In countries that speak French such as French Guiana or islands of the French Caribbean, people know it as une fête des quinze ans.

No matter a person’s cultural traditions, a party of this caliber deserves an appropriate venue to match.  Most families have large guests lists, so it is important to find an event venue that holds up to 400 people, such as South Florida’s Germack Event Venue.  Some venues include catering options which greatly reduces the stress of planning a menu with an outside vendor.  When everything is in-house, there is less worry.

The day of a quinceañera’s party is an important, celebrated day she will never forget.  For this reason, the perfect venue is a must.  Families should shop around for a venue that is near hotels and an airport, especially if many family members will be arriving from out of town to attend the event.  Likewise, families should choose a venue with an outstanding reputation.  By checking with past clients, reviewing testimonials and looking at post photos of similar events, families can assure themselves the venue has the necessary experience and expertise to operate the event successfully.

In Southern Florida, near Davie, there are several event venues.  No venue is better than Germack Event Venue which offers top-of-the-line customer service and the best quality experiences for all types of events.  To learn more about our offerings, contact us today.
